The Dell Go Green Challenge invites gadget geeks and green enthusiasts to share their unique stories and ideas on reusing, recycling and recreating gadgets for a greener future.

If you have redesigned or refurbished an old gadget to create something new and different, we want to hear your story. Browse through similar creative stories from others and get inspired.

Be part of a distinctly chic way to create awareness of issues around electronic waste in India.

What is a gadget?

Wikipedia definition: "A gadget is a small technological object (such as a device or an appliance) that has a particular function, but is often thought of as a novelty. Gadgets are invariably considered to be more unusually or cleverly designed than normal technological objects at the time of their invention. Gadgets are sometimes also referred to as gizmos."

For the contest purpose, we define gadgets as electronic devices we use in our daily lives. (Images of the following gadgets: Laptop, Desktop, Mobile phone, Camera, iPod, Handycam)

What kind of entries qualify?

We are looking for stories and ideas that fall under these four categories:

1. Reuse & refurbish an old gadget Have you turned your old PC into a music server? Teach us how. Do you know of someone who arranged for old PCs to be donated to help slum children learn new skills? Inspire others with your stories.

2. Create new value from junk gadgets People have used their junk gadgets to find new, unique uses for them. iBed. An old monitor transformed into a comfortable bed for a pet cat . This alien transformer is called Mice! Have you done anything similar? Maybe you can come up with your own cool idea! Please feel free to make us go "WOW".

3. Design for greener gadgets Can you design a gadget that is more green and sustainable? This is your chance to put your skills and talents to work. Amaze us with your creativity and imagination.

4. Recycle gadgets Have you ever recycled a gadget? If yes, what was your experience like? Tell us your story and motivate others to recycle as well. It's convenient and eco-friendly.

Judging Process

1. The entry with the highest votes gets the People's Choice Award 2. Judges give Critic's Choice Award to the three best entries

1. Relevance - How focused is the idea to the contest theme of gadgets going green 2. Clarity - Is the idea explained clearly? 3. Originality - Have you heard something similar before? 4. Practicality - Can it be implemented? 5. Social Relevance - What benefit does it do to the society?

Contest Rules

1. No purchase is required to participate in the contest.

2. The Entrant must be the sole author and the owner of the copyright of all material (text, photo, video) submitted.

3. Participants must declare at the time of registration that the entry is their own work and must agree to the terms and conditions mentioned hereunder.

4. There is no limit on the number of entries that one user can submit.

5. Entries can be submitted as Text, Photo or Video, or a combination of these.

6. For quality assurance purposes, all photo entries submitted need to be in JPEG file format and all video entries submitted need to be in AVI/MP4 file format

7. Each entry must have a title describing the idea/story behind the entry

8. The content uploaded must not contain any illicit material Only citizens living in India are eligible for entry to the contest. The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, whose

9. decision will be final. No correspondence will be exchanged to discuss the merits and demerits of images that are not selected. In the event the entries do not meet the judges' standards, the organizers reserve the right to refrain from declaring an award.

10. The prizes are not exchangeable for any item and are non transferable.

11. Users will have to register to enter the contest. Users are allowed only one vote per day for the contest period.

Terms & Condition

1. ABOUT THE CONTEST/ELIGIBILITY: The Contest begins at 12:00:00 am on March 4 , 2010 and ends at 11:59:59 pm on May 4, 2010. The contest is only open to citizens of India. For participants below the age of 18 at the time of entry, it is acknowledged that the child has participated with full parental consent. Employees and partners of Dell, its affiliates, subsidiaries, and any entity involved in the development, production, implementation, administration or fulfillment of the contest and the immediate family members and persons living in the same household as such individuals, are not eligible to participate or win.

2. HOW TO ENTER: To enter, register on the Contest website. Entries should not contain profanity or inappropriate language or content. Inappropriate entries will be disqualified by Dell in its sole discretion. One entry per person per day during the contest period. A day is defined as 12:00:00 am through 11:59:59 pm.

3. WINNER SELECTION: Winner selection is in two categories: Non-entrants and Entrants. Non-Entrants will receive a weekly prize and an overall prize based on their activity as measured by the reputation score. Among, entrants most voted entry selected in a transparent process by the community will receive the People's Choice Award. The Critic's Choice Awards will be decided from among the Top 20 most voted entries by a panel of judges. The decision of the judges would be final and binding.

4. WINNERS LIST: The names of the winners will be announced on the website after the contest is over for a period of at least 1 month. The Participant grants the Sponsors irrevocable consent in perpetuity to the use his/ her name, photographs, provided by the Participants or taken during the Prize distribution in connection with the Contest, in any and all applications including but not limited to advertising, promotion, text, articles, at any time without the Participants further knowledge or consent. If Sponsors are unable to contact a winner (after having taken reasonable measures) within 15 days after the close of the contest, the organizers will declare another winner.

5. PRIZES: All prizes will be handed out after the contest period ends. Reporting and payment of all applicable taxes, fees, and/or surcharges are the sole responsibility of each winner. Dell will not replace any lost or stolen prize. Dell reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value at its sole discretion. Any difference between the actual value of a prize and the approximated prize value as stated in these rules will not be awarded. Dell shall not be responsible for the quality or deficiency etc. of the Prize and no claim or request, whatsoever, in this respect shall be entertained by Dell. The Prize(s) shall not be transferable / redeemable for cash. No request shall be entertained by Dell in this behalf.

6. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION: By entering, participants release and hold harmless Dell, its subsidiaries, affiliates, employees and partners from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage arising from or in connection with participation in this promotion or acceptance/use of any prize. Participation in this contest implies acceptance of all the terms and conditions of the contest. The Participant grants the Sponsors irrevocable consent in perpetuity to use all submitted content in any form or manner.

7. GENERAL: This contest is governed by the laws of India. All disputes in respect of this Contest shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of competent court/s at New Delhi. Dell reserves the right to suspend, cancel, or modify this promotion if fraud or any other causes beyond its control destroys the integrity of the promotion, as determined by Dell.
